Abstract

The purpose of the research was to know the effect of C / N balance of bioslurry fertilizer (biogas sludge) and fertilizer dose on the growth of leek (Allium fistulosum). The design used was a complete randomized design of factorial pattern. The first factor of the C and N balances are 18, 20, 30 and 40. The second factor is the composting dose of 10 tons / hectare, 20 tons / hectare and 30 tons / hectare. Each treatment was repeated three times. The observed variables were the increase in length, width and number of strands. The data obtained were analyzed variance (ANOVA). The result of ststistic analysis shows that there is C / N influence on the number of strands; there was a dose effect on the length and width of leek but no interaction between C / N and the dose of fertilization. The best onion growth occurs at a dose of 10 tons / hectare as it leads to an increase in length, the highest width which is an important indicator of onion measurements.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of biochar and compost fertilizer and their interactions on changes in the physical and chemical properties of soil and corn yields on dry land. This experiment used a randomized block design with factorial patterns. The treatment consists of two factors, namely: the dose of biochar and compost. The first factor, the dose of biochar consists of 4 levels, namely: 0 tons ha-1, 5 tons ha-1, 10 tons ha-1, 15 tons ha-1. The second factor, the compost dosage consisted of 2 levels: 0 tons ha-1 and 20 tons ha-1. The highest dry shelled seed per ha was obtained from the treatment of 10 tons ha-1 biochar which was 9.21 tons which increased by 35.56% compared to the lowest dry shelled seed per ha obtained from the treatment without biochar which was 6.79 tons . The treatment of compost doses of 20 tons ha-1 gave the highest value of dry shelled beans per ha, which was 8.73 tons, increasing by 16.58% compared to the lowest yield of dry shelled seeds per ha, which was 7.49 tons in the treatment without compost.

Abstract

Myoglobin is a cytoplasmic hemoprotein with an important role of maintaining oxygen homeostasis of tissues. The brain needs quite a high amount of oxygen to carry out its metabolism. Therefore, this study was conducted to detect the expression level of myoglobin mRNA in the brain of normal rats (Rattus novergicus). The study was conducted at the Biochemistry and Molecular Biology Laboratory of the Biology Major of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, UNJ from December 2010 to February 2011. Through 1.5% agarose gel electrophoresis, results show that the myoglobin band of 114bp was detected in the brain of normal rats (Rattus novergicus). Due to the positive results, there is a huge possibility that the myoglobin expressed in the brain of rats (Rattus novergicus) would be altered into protein during environmental conditions of low oxygen concentration.

Abstract

Myoglobin is an intracellular protein which has a vital role in maintaining oxygen hemostasis within living tissue. This protein has the ability to bind and send oxygen to mitochondrial membrane to enable transduction of energy. The liver is the biggest organ in the bodyand has complex functions. Based on the complex functions, liver needs quite a big amount of oxygen, so the metabolism process can be performed well. This study aims to detect mRNA expression in the liver of rats (Rattus novergicus) in normoxia. The study was conducted at the Biochemistry and Molecular Biology Laboratory of the Biology Major of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, UNJ. This study utilized quasi-experiment method. The study results show that myoglobin mRNA is expressed in the liver of rats (Rattus novergicus) in normoxia on 114 pb. This result can create a new paradigm towards myoglobin gene that this gene might be a constitutive gene. This information can be the basis that living tissues have strategies for mechanism of adaptation towards low oxygen environment by increasing the expression of myoglobin in the tissue.

This study aims were to determine the morphology, behavior, and life cycle of the P. m memnon butterfly. The research method used is descriptive with survey techniques and literature studies. This study aims to determine the morphology, behavior, and life cycle of the P. m memnon butterfly. The research method used was descriptive with survey techniques and literature studies. Data about morphology, duration of life, and behavior at each development phase during the P. m memnon butterfly life cycle were analyzed descriptively based on direct observation. The results showed the egg phase of P. m. memnon takes about 7-8 days to the phase instar1 of the larvae. The average total time needed in the larval phase is around 23 - 45 days to the pupa phase. The Pre-pupa phase lasts 1-2 days, while the pupa phase lasts 2-3 weeks. P. m. memnon performs the larval phase as many as 5 stages of instar. Food eaten by first phase instar 1 of larvae is the eggshell, which is useful for insect growth and helps eliminate evidence of eggs from parasitic attacks. At each phase of development, the larvae eat the outer skin to obtain additional energy to support growth.

Abstract

The addition of alcohol as an oxygenated compound, affect the vapor pressure of gasoline. In this study, the vapor pressure of isobutanol – isooctane/n-heptane blends were investigated. Vapor-liquid equilibrium data for the binary systems of isobutanol + isooctane/n-heptane were measured at low temperatures ranging from 303.15 to 323.15 K. The measurement was carried out using simple quasistatic ebulliometer. The apparatus validated by comparing the vapor pressure of pure isobutanol, isooctane, and n-heptane with the published data and average absolute deviation (AAD) obtained was less than 0.83%. The vapor pressure of the binary mixtures correlated with the Wilson, Non-random two-liquid (NRTL), and Universal quasichemical (UNIQUAC) models. The AAD for isobutanol + isooctane system were 1.54%, 1.44%, 1.71% respectively and for isobutanol + n-heptane system were 1.73%, 1.65%, 1.99% respectively. The vapor pressure from the experiment for all systems shows a positive deviation from Raoult’s Law that indicates a nonideal solution.
